About me

Hi, I’m Gait and I believe that yoga has the transformative power to bring mental and physical wellbeing through mindful movement, introspection and breathwork. I offer a variety of group classes to meet to different needs from dynamic yoga flow to soothing Yin yoga - see more about these on my Group classes page. I also offer bespoke 121 or group sessions, as well as workshops and events.

My teaching

I am a Yoga Alliance certified yoga teacher with 200h of Vinyasa and Yin Yoga training from the Bristol School of Yoga. My teaching philosophy centres around creating a supportive and inclusive space for all students, facilitating students to practice in a way that meets their body and needs. My aim is to empower students to make their own choices about what is right for them in their yoga practice, by inviting students to tune into and listen to their body and offering different options and levels to asanas (poses), as well as providing props.

My yoga practice

My own yoga journey started many years ago and has become a foundational support in my life, especially since I developed Long Covid in 2020. It has been an invaluable aid to my recovery and management of Long Covid and despite my Long Covid, my body is in other ways stronger than it has ever been because of yoga. Ways in which yoga has helped me personally are through:

  • Movement - Yoga provides me with an accessible way to move my body, in a way that avoids crashing with post exertional malaise. This is not only down to the adaptable nature of yoga, but due to the way yoga can help train the nervous system to move back and forth between an up- and down-regulated state.

  • Svadyaya (self study) - My daily morning practice helps act as a barometer so I can gauge whether I am having a good or low energy day and go about my day accordingly. Self study has also helped me identify triggers for energy crashes and ultimately to learn to listen to my body.

  • Stilling the busy mind - Yoga helps me to learn to let go of the past and worries of the future, focussing instead on being present. This may be through mindful movement (asanas), meditation (dhyana) or using the breath as a anchor (pranayama).

What started as a physical practice has become a transformative path of healing and self-discovery for me and I hope yoga can do the same for you.

Feel free to join one of my classes or reach out if you have any questions!

What to expect from my classes

Yoga that meets your body and needs - My style of teaching honours individuals’ bodies, capacities and needs, inviting you to tune into your body so that you meet your body wherever it is. I empower students to decide what is best for their body, offering props and variations to poses to enable this.

Optional hands on assists - I offer hands on assists as a voluntary option, either to help bring awareness to parts of the body (proprioception) or to help provide grounding in certain poses.

A chance to play and have fun - Like life, yoga needn’t be serious, so I try to weave elements of play into the classes, because not only is this fun, but because this can also be a great way to learn and try something out of one’s comfort zone.

Beyond the physical - Yoga is a holistic practice that goes beyond the physical benefits, and so my classes incorporate practises such as pranayama (breathwork), mindfulness/meditation and yoga philosophy, recognizing the connection between body, mind and breath.
